Harbor Country

New Buffalo is the next village to the south of Union Pier on Lake Michigan. Restaurants, cafe's and bar and grills are in plentiful supply and line the streets, along with shops, galleries and even fishing boat charters. New Buffalo has a perfect climate, with breezes from Lake Michigan that both relieve the worst summer heat and take the edge off winter's coldness.

Michiana

Michiana is the southernmost village in Harbor Country, at the south-west tip of the state of Michigan in Berrien County. It is the last town on the lake in Michigan, lying just to the south of Grand Beach and directly on the border of Michigan and Indiana, hence its name, Michiana. Although it is the name of this small village, the name 'Michiana' is also used to describe the whole area just to the Michigan side of the Michigan-Indiana border, which was previously known as Michigan Shores. The area surrounding Michiana village is home to numerous inns, u-pick farms and plentiful shopping. Michiana is also known for its quaint log cabins, some of which date back to the 1920's.

Grand Beach

The village of Grand Beach, Michigan is a beautiful, upscale beach and golf lovers' haven. The name Grand Beach perfectly describes this charming village that boasts some of the most breathtaking beaches on Lake Michigan. A beautiful white archway welcomes visitors and residents alike as they pass underneath it to enter Grand Beach, and the village is virtually built around a pro-level nine-hole golf course, where championship matches were often played in the 1930's.

Union Pier

To the south of Lakeside, the unique village of Union Pier has numerous inns and bed & breakfasts along Lake Michigan with beachfront access. Once a bustling shipping port for Chicago merchants and home to numerous movie and rock stars, Union Pier is now home to three world-class wineries, numerous art galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants and some of the finest beaches on Lake Michigan. Union Pier is situated in Berrien County between Lake Michigan and the Galien River, just five miles north of the Michigan-Indiana state line.

Three Oaks

On the eastern side of Harbor Country, about six miles to the east of the shore of Lake Michigan, is the small village of Three Oaks. Three Oaks is a haven for the arts, with regular live performances at the famous Acorn Theater, as well as independent and foreign films showing regularly in Three Oaks' vintage Vickers Theater. Three Oaks further celebrates the arts with art festivals on the streets occurring every month on a regular basis.

Harbert

Just a few miles to the south of Sawyer, if you follow the Red Arrow Highway as it winds through the beautiful Harbor Country shore line, you will find the European flavored, chic, decidedly boutique village of Harbert, one of the smallest villages in Harbor Country and the home of poet Carl Sandburg for over 15 years. Dotted with numerous boutique wineries, art galleries, antique shops, as well as a world-renowned Swedish Bakery, charming cafes, restaurants and a beautiful country bed and breakfast are the centerpieces of this quiet little village.

Sawyer

The northernmost village in Harbor Country, Sawyer is lush with vineyards and fruit farms, with numerous curio shops, restaurants and fruit stands lining the quaint downtown area of Sawyer. In contrast there is also has a large modern travel center with chain restaurants just off the interstate area to the east of town. Sawyer is also home to Warren Dunes State Park, which consists of 1,500 acres of majestic dunes, some standing over 240 feet high, along more than two miles of pristine beaches which makes up one of Michigan's largest and most popular state parks.

Stevensville

Stevensville, Michigan is a larger village of just over 1,000 citizens, in Berrien County on the Lake Michigan shore. Stevensville is located approximately midway between the smaller Harbor Country villages of Sawyer, Harbert and the city of St. Joseph. It is therefore perfectly placed for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the quiet, unspoiled delights of the lakeshore villages, but also be close to the facilities and attractions of a larger city.

St. Joseph

The picturesque small city of St. Joseph lies on the shore of Lake Michigan, to the north of the beautiful chain of small villages along the lakeside known as Harbor Country, yet it is still in Berrien County. In fact, St. Joseph has been the county seat of Berrien County since 1894. St. Joseph is located at the southern tip of what is known as 'The Riviera of the Midwest', in recognition of the spectacular natural beauty and more comfortable climate of this area of the state of Michigan.
